There are two of them, built in into lorry trailers, together capable of delivering a total of 3.2MW – 320kW to each of 10 electric vehicles simultaneously.
“Considering the availability of grid connections, which are often only limited, it is a unique opportunity to provide high charging capacities for a limited period of time and in a flexible location,” according to ADS-TEC Energy, the German company behind the batteries.
They got their first public airing at the end of last year at Barcelona’s race track, only a year after the concept was hatched.
“It was an extraordinary and enormous challenge to accommodate this energy and power on a standard truck format while maintaining the permissible gross vehicle weight,” said ADS-TEC managing director Thomas Speidel – they each weigh 40 tonnes.
ADS-TEC has long experience of lithium-ion energy storage, and builds batteries, chargers and energy management systems aimed at private homes, public buildings and commercial enterprises – starting at 19kWh.
There are scalable storage systems for industrial and infrastructure, as well as self-sufficient energy supply systems with capacities of up to several megawatts.
ADS-TEC Energy is a medium-sized, family-run business is headquartered near Stuttgart, and part-owned by Bosch. Its products are made in its factory near Dresden.
